The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has announced a fine exemption for Iranian nationals who have overstayed in the UAE due to ongoing flight suspensions and airspace closures between the two countries.
The initiative applies to all Iranian citizens currently in the UAE, whether on residency permits, visit visas, or other entry categories, and is aimed at easing the financial and legal burden on those who have been unable to return home due to transportation disruptions beyond their control.
The UAE, home to a significant Iranian expatriate population and long-standing economic and cultural ties with Iran, has adopted this decision in the spirit of solidarity and compassion. The ICP confirmed that the exemption reflects the nation's ongoing commitment to supporting residents and visitors during times of exceptional hardship.
In an official statement, the authority said:
“The UAE remains committed to upholding its values of hospitality and humanity. We understand the unique challenges faced by Iranian nationals at this time and have therefore approved a full exemption from overstay fines to alleviate undue hardship.”
This gesture is particularly notable as it comes at a time when regional instability and airspace restrictions, including suspended commercial flights between Iran and the UAE have left many stranded.
The fine waiver is available to:
To benefit from the exemption, individuals must register through the ICP’s smart services platform, or visit a Customer Happiness Center located throughout the UAE. The authority urged all eligible persons to begin the process promptly to ensure smooth resolution of their visa status.
Iranian expatriates and business owners in the UAE have widely welcomed the announcement. Several community representatives expressed appreciation for the UAE government’s understanding and support.
Mehdi Farhani, a Dubai-based Iranian entrepreneur, said:
“Many in our community have been worried about mounting fines and legal consequences due to circumstances outside our control. This exemption is a lifeline for families and professionals who contribute to the UAE’s economy and society.”
Eligible individuals are advised to:
Applicants are encouraged to act as early as possible, as the exemption may be time-bound depending on how long flight suspensions remain in place.
