Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the construction of a new bridge aimed at dramatically reducing travel time between Dubai–Al Ain Road and Nad Al Sheba.

Project Overview

The proposed two-lane bridge will span approximately 700 meters, directly connecting inbound traffic from Dubai–Al Ain Road towards Al Ain. Designed to accommodate up to 2,600 vehicles per hour, the bridge is expected to cut travel time from six minutes to just one minute—a reduction of 83%. This development will serve the residential communities in Nad Al Sheba, home to around 30,000 residents, by easing congestion at entry and exit points throughout the area.

Construction is slated to commence in the fourth quarter of 2025, with completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Strategic Importance

The RTA emphasized that this project aligns with Dubai's broader vision to enhance infrastructure efficiency and accommodate rapid population growth. By improving connectivity and reducing travel times, the bridge aims to uphold the highest standards of traffic safety and seamless mobility, contributing to Dubai's goal of becoming the best city in the world for living and mobility.

Complementary Developments

This initiative follows the recent inauguration of a 170-meter bridge at the intersection of Nad Al Sheba Street and Dubai–Al Ain Road, featuring two lanes in each direction. This bridge facilitates traffic flow towards Nad Al Sheba, Meydan, and nearby development projects.

Additional enhancements in the area include:

  • Comprehensive traffic improvements near schools such as Repton School and Al Khaleej International School, benefiting approximately 10,000 students
  • Conversion of the intersection at Latifa bint Hamdan Street and Nad Al Sheba Street into a roundabout, resulting in a 50% reduction in delay time
  • Construction of new entry and exit points from Meydan Street to the residential area, contributing to a 60% reduction in travel time
  • Development of an integrated road network, including internal roads and additional access points in Nad Al Sheba 1, 3, and 4, enhancing connectivity between neighborhoods

Enhancing Quality of Life

The RTA stated that the construction of the new bridge is part of its strategic direction to achieve safer and more efficient mobility. By launching proactive and sustainable road projects and traffic solutions, the authority aims to support the future of mobility in the emirate, reduce travel times, and address the needs of residents and visitors to nearby neighborhoods. These efforts collectively contribute to enhancing the quality of life in Dubai.

The RTA remains committed to incorporating public feedback into future development plans, reflecting a culture of collaboration and active community engagement. These projects support the authority's strategic objectives of enhancing the efficiency of the road network, improving traffic safety, and strengthening Dubai's global leadership in smooth and sustainable mobility.
