The Trump Organization is back in the global real estate spotlight, announcing a new venture to develop a luxury golf resort in Qatar, in partnership with international developer Dar Global. The announcement marks the company’s first new overseas project since Donald Trump launched his campaign to return to the White House in 2024.

The Trump Organization is back in the global real estate spotlight, announcing a new venture to develop a luxury golf resort in Qatar, in partnership with international developer Dar Global. The announcement marks the company’s first new overseas project since Donald Trump launched his campaign to return to the White House in 2024.

The ambitious project will be located in the heart of Doha’s Lusail City, a high-profile development spearheaded by Qatari Diar, a real estate investment arm of Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund. The new Trump resort will feature a championship-level 18-hole golf course, luxury branded villas, and a suite of high-end lifestyle amenities designed to attract affluent international buyers and tourists.

Blending Politics, Business, and Real Estate

The timing of the deal has reignited concerns from ethics experts and political watchdogs, who argue that the former U.S. president’s business ventures abroad—especially those involving foreign governments or their entities—pose potential conflicts of interest. The Qatari government’s ownership of Qatari Diar puts this project under increased scrutiny.

"This deal is exactly the kind of entanglement we warned about during Trump’s presidency,” said a spokesperson from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). “It mixes public influence with private gain in ways that could jeopardize the integrity of U.S. foreign policy.”

Although Trump had previously pledged not to engage in new international business ventures involving foreign governments during his presidency, that restriction no longer applies now that he is out of office. Nevertheless, critics argue that the timing—while he is actively campaigning for re-election—raises red flags.

Project Details and Strategic Location

The planned golf resort is part of a broader luxury development in Lusail, a futuristic city envisioned as a new economic and cultural hub just north of Doha. The area has already drawn global attention, hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup final and featuring a growing number of upscale residential and hospitality projects.

Dar Global, the Trump Organization’s partner in the venture, is known for its collaborations with iconic lifestyle brands such as Missoni, Pagani, and W Hotels. The company said the Trump-branded project would “elevate the region’s hospitality and real estate offerings,” noting that demand for luxury residences and branded experiences is booming across the Middle East.

The Trump family’s business interests in the Gulf region have steadily grown over the past decade. LIV Golf, a controversial pro golf league backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, has hosted tournaments at Trump properties in the U.S., while Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner secured $2 billion in funding from the same Saudi fund for his investment firm.

Despite the controversy, the Trump brand continues to carry commercial weight in global luxury real estate markets. The Qatar project aims to capitalize on that recognition, especially in the high-net-worth investor segment.

Construction timelines and further project details are expected to be announced in the coming months. With Qatar positioning itself as a major destination for international investment and tourism, the Trump Organization’s entry into the market could signal more cross-border developments to come.
