Abu Dhabi, UAE – 20 July 2025 – Mubadala Investment Company has officially commenced the Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project, a bold redevelopment initiative set to transform Al Maryah Island into a vibrant wellness, leisure, and lifestyle destination.
At the heart of the project lies an iconic 30‑metre luminous sphere, positioned dramatically within the bay and surrounded by over 1,000 AI-powered jets that shoot water 75 metres into the air, choreographed to music by Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi. The installation is designed by WET, the same studio behind iconic water features such as the Bellagio fountains.
The waterfront will feature an upgraded sea-level boardwalk, shaded cooling zones to mitigate summer heat, and new food-and-beverage areas paired with event-ready public spaces, all intended to elevate the overall experience for visitors and residents alike.
The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Mubadala’s Deputy Group CEO, alongside Dr . Bakheet Al Katheeri, CEO of UAE Investments. Dr. Al Katheeri stated:
“The Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project is a strategic investment in the future of Al Maryah Island. This project will deliver iconic elements that elevate the quality of life and offer a diverse experience for visitors, while reinforcing the island’s position as a premier lifestyle destination.”
The enhanced waterfront is designed to support Abu Dhabi’s growing tourism ambitions by providing a scenic destination for leisure, cultural engagement, and commercial activation. According to industry reports, this development will help make Al Maryah Island more attractive to global visitors and boost adjacent real estate values. This project is also aligned with broader urban transformation initiatives, including recent launches such as Disney Abu Dhabi and Bulgari’s luxury development.
Al Maryah Island spans 114 hectares and serves as a central hub for finance, retail, hospitality, and medical services, housing Dubai Global Market, The Galleria mall, Cleveland Clinic, and several high-end hotels. The waterfront upgrade will further enrich this mixed-use district, adding both texture and experiential depth to its urban landscape.
