Shanghai, China - August 2025 – China has officially opened the doors to its first LEGOLAND resort and it’s now the largest LEGO theme park in the world. Located in Fengjing Town, Jinshan District, LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort spans a massive 318,000 m² (about 78 acres) and celebrated its grand opening on July 5, 2025.
The resort took nearly four years to complete, with over 10,000 workers from 15 countries helping bring this brick-built wonderland to life. Built using more than 85 million LEGO bricks, the resort features eight themed zones and over 75 rides, performances, and interactive experiences, all designed to spark the imaginations of children and families alike.
At the heart of the resort lies Miniland, a captivating space featuring LEGO-built recreations of global landmarks like Beijing’s Temple of Heaven and Shanghai’s Bund. Split across indoor and outdoor environments, these miniature marvels are enhanced with dynamic lighting, immersive soundscapes, and interactive play zones, offering a storytelling-rich experience rooted in history and architecture.
Among the standout features:
Monkie Kid Live Show: A theatrical experience telling the story of Flower Fruit Mountain, featuring a gigantic puppeteered Demon King, 13 performers, and immersive projection mapping.
The LEGOLAND Hotel, just steps from the theme park, offers 250 LEGO-themed rooms across five unique styles. Inside, over 1,700 LEGO art pieces and 200+ interactive features fill the space, most notably a wall with 4,500 minifigures. Nightly in-room surprises and entertainment ensure every stay is part of the adventure.
Visitors can choose from six full-service restaurants and ten themed food stalls, serving items like brick-shaped burgers and vibrant LEGO-styled desserts. The resort also features Asia’s largest LEGO store and a dedicated Monkie Kid merchandise shop offering exclusive collectibles.
Despite soaring temperatures and an orange weather alert, the opening day drew thousands of eager visitors. Many had already experienced a soft launch on June 20 or purchased annual passes. Tickets ranged from ¥319 ($44) to ¥599 ($84), depending on season and access type.
Nearby hotels experienced a boom in bookings, and offline retail saw a spike in local demand. While the heat caused minor medical issues and some queuing delays, the air-conditioned indoor attractions helped keep spirits high.
