Ras Al Khaimah, UAE – August 8, 2025 - As Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) continues to rise as one of the UAE’s most dynamic and fast-growing emirates, the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) is evolving its academic and research initiatives to align with the emirate’s ambitious development agenda.

From tourism and hospitality to real estate and infrastructure, RAK is experiencing record growth—marked by projects such as the Middle East’s first integrated gaming resort and surging metrics, including a 12%+ increase in tourism revenues and a 15% rise in MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) visitors.

In 2024, RAK welcomed 1.28 million visitors, with projections pointing toward 3.5 million by 2030, further establishing the emirate as a regional investment and lifestyle powerhouse.

AURAK’s Role in RAK’s Vision

Recognizing its role in shaping the emirate’s talent pipeline and innovation ecosystem, AURAK is expanding its offerings in alignment with RAK’s trajectory. The university has already earned international recognition, achieving the prestigious QS 5 Stars Plus rating in 2023—placing it among the world’s top institutions.

“Ras Al Khaimah stands at the threshold of a bold new future, powered by a growth strategy that harmonizes the preservation of natural beauty and culture with modern attractions, services, and amenities,” said Dr. David Schmidt, President of AURAK.

“At AURAK, we are committed to supporting this transformation by enhancing and expanding our academic portfolio—bridging the gap between academia and the dynamic industries propelling RAK’s unprecedented advancement.”

Expanding Programs in High-Growth Fields To meet evolving industry needs, AURAK is enhancing its programs in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Robotics, Biotechnology, Engineering, and Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being introduced as a core element across disciplines, with students in programs such as Architecture, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, and Civil Engineering now able to pursue a Minor in AI to complement their technical expertise.

Innovation at the Core

AURAK is driving research through several flagship initiatives:

  • Advanced Technology and Artificial Intelligence Center (ATAIC)
  • AURAK Center for Entrepreneurship (ACE)

RAK Research and Innovation Center, a cutting-edge R&D facility focused on alternative energy, especially solar technologies

These centers not only position the university at the forefront of regional innovation but also act as catalysts for partnerships with private enterprises and government stakeholders.

In response to the surge in new businesses and government-led mega projects across RAK, AURAK is actively building stronger partnerships with both the public and private sectors. During Career Week 2025, 32 companies visited the campus to connect with students and recent graduates, offering internships and employment opportunities.
