A sprawling 151-acre estate in New York’s Hudson Valley has been listed for sale for USD 30 million, marking its first time on the market in more than 30 years. The property, named “Renamor,” sits in the exclusive gated village of Tuxedo Park, a community long associated with American tycoons, socialites, and billionaires since the late 1800s.
The property comes to market one year after the death of longtime owners Robert Dow, senior managing partner at a private investment firm and a 1972 Olympic fencer, and his wife, Christina Seix Dow, a former asset manager.
Listed by Ellis Sotheby’s International Realty, Renamor is the largest estate in Tuxedo Park and a rare opportunity in one of New York’s most exclusive enclaves.
Renamor was originally constructed in 1920 in the French Provincial style for George Amory, a stockholder in Sea-Land Freight Company, and his wife Marion Renee, whose name inspired “Renamor.”
In the early 1950s, the property was sold and temporarily housed the Academy of Mount St. Vincent before returning to private ownership.
Architectural details include clay tile roofs, dormer windows, stone-and-stucco façades, and original wrought-ironwork typical of post–World War I rustic American estates.
Just 40 miles northwest of New York City, Tuxedo Park has been a haven for American high society since its founding in 1886 by tobacco heir Pierre Lorillard IV. Originally developed as a private hunting-and-fishing reserve along Tuxedo Lake, the gated village quickly became a center of wealth and influence.
Historic residents include:
It is also famously home to the Tuxedo Club, where the first short dinner jacket, known today as the tuxedo, was introduced in the late 1800s.
Author Emily Post, known for The Blue Book of Social Usage, also spent summers there with her family.
Today, the village is home to fewer than 400 residents, with estates listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The USD 30 million price tag for Renamor places it far above other active listings in the community. The next most expensive property, Brook Farm, is currently listed at USD 7 million. That estate spans six acres and includes an 8,250-square-foot home with eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms.
According to Sotheby’s International Realty, Renamor represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity:
“This property is not only the largest in Tuxedo Park but also one of the most historically significant estates in the Hudson Valley. Its scale, provenance, and unique setting on Tuxedo Lake make it unmatched in today’s luxury market.”
