Group CEO
Category:Leading Contractors
Company:BG Group
Residence:UAE

Before BG Group existed, Khalid Kaluti had already spent close to two decades running businesses that had nothing to do with construction, including upscale restaurants in Washington, DC, and retail ventures. He moved into contracting in Dubai in the mid-2000s, starting with a landscaping company called Better Gardens rather than a full construction outfit. That starting point matters, because it shaped the way BG Group later came together: piece by piece, around outdoor spaces and interiors, rather than as a construction firm from day one.

Kaluti's business grew in stages. Better Gardens handled pools and landscaping first, then expanded into interiors and kitchens as clients started asking for more from the same team. Around 2008, his path crossed with designer Bruno Guélaff, and the two began working together after realizing they had effectively been each other's clients. That partnership eventually became the basis for BG Villas, a turnkey villa design and construction division, and later for the wider BG Group structure that now sits over several specialised companies covering construction, interiors, landscaping, smart home systems, and real estate.

As Group CEO, Kaluti's role has largely been about stitching these different businesses into one coherent operation rather than running a single construction company in the traditional sense. Under the BG Group umbrella now sit brands covering villa construction, landscaping, smart automation, Italian kitchen design through the Pedini franchise in Dubai, and a newer real estate advisory arm. Each has its own specialism, but they're built to work as one delivery chain on a single project, from architecture and interiors through to landscaping and technology.

That structure reflects how Kaluti talks about the business: less as a construction company and more as a group built around the full experience of building and living in a home. It also explains why BG Group's growth has looked different from a typical regional contractor's, expanding by adding capabilities under one roof rather than by chasing larger infrastructure contracts. Two decades on from Better Gardens, the group has become one of the more established names in Dubai's high-end residential design and build market, with Kaluti still directly involved in how the various companies under BG Group work together on client projects.
