Dutco traces its roots back to 1947, when it began as Dubai Transport Company before growing into a diversified group with interests across construction, marine works, logistics, technology, and hospitality. Baker's own career at the group has run alongside much of that growth, giving him direct oversight of how its construction and hospitality businesses have developed over a long period.
Through his role at Dutco Construction, Baker oversees businesses involved in building construction, civil engineering, and marine infrastructure, supporting projects that have contributed to the UAE's development over several decades. His oversight extends across the group's construction companies, which handle building works, roadworks, and marine and civil projects, as well as its dredging operations, which have supported major port and coastal developments in the UAE.
As Chairman of JA Resorts & Hotels, Baker has also guided the growth of the group's hospitality brand from its first two properties in Jebel Ali and Hatta into an international name with resorts across the UAE, the Maldives, and the UK. That dual role, overseeing both a construction group and a hospitality brand, reflects the breadth of responsibilities he holds within Dutco.
Baker has described the businesses under his oversight as retaining a family-run character even as they have grown into larger, more technical operations. That approach has carried across the group's various divisions, from its construction and marine engineering companies to its hospitality arm, as each has expanded independently over the years.
Today, Baker continues to guide the group's construction interests while contributing to the broader direction of the diversified Dutco Group. His long association with the business reflects decades of experience across construction, hospitality, and infrastructure, making him one of the established figures in the UAE's built environment.
