Sharjah Ruler Announces New Residential Neighbourhood in Jabal Al Ashkel

Sharjah, UAE: According to WAM, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has announced the allocation of a new residential area in Jabal Al Ashkel, near the Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled, for the development of a major housing neighbourhood for citizens.

Al Ashkel Neighbourhood to deliver hundreds of homes

Speaking during a phone interview on the programme Direct Line, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi revealed that the new development will comprise hundreds of homes and will be officially named Al Ashkel Neighbourhood. The project forms part of Sharjah’s long-term strategy to expand residential supply and ensure housing availability for Emirati families.

Infrastructure and mountain-style housing planned

The Ruler of Sharjah confirmed that infrastructure works are planned for the area, including the paving of a new road connecting Jabal Al Ashkel to Al Rafisah. He noted that the mountain homes in this location will have distinct architectural features compared to seaside residences, reflecting the area’s natural terrain and environment.

Addressing concerns among residents, Sheikh Sultan reassured the people of Khorfakkan that there is no shortage of residential land in the city. He acknowledged that some residents believe housing plots in Al Harray have been exhausted, but stressed that additional areas are being developed to meet current and future demand.

Ongoing construction across multiple residential areas

Sheikh Sultan announced that 270 homes are currently under construction in two phases, including 120 homes in Al Mudeife, where plots have already been handed over to the Department of Housing. These projects are progressing as part of Sharjah’s wider housing development programme.

He also stated that plots in Al Harray previously allocated to holders of commercial licences are now being handed over to the municipality, with construction expected to take approximately two years.

Similar projects underway in Kalba

The Ruler of Sharjah added that similar residential neighbourhoods, developed under the same regulations, are being implemented in the city of Kalba along the ring road, starting from Al Ghayl, then Al Saaf and Al Tareef. Construction has already begun in the Al Dahiyat residential neighbourhood.

These initiatives reflect Sharjah’s continued focus on balanced urban growth, infrastructure development, and the delivery of sustainable residential communities across its eastern cities.
