Vietnam to Build 135,000-Seat World’s Largest Football Stadium

Vietnam is planning what could become the largest football stadium in the world. With a proposed capacity of 135,000 seats in Ho Chi Minh City, the project would surpass the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea, currently the largest football stadium at just over 114,000 seats.

The development is positioned as part of a broader urban and infrastructure strategy, with the stadium expected to anchor a mixed-use district integrating hospitality, commercial space, and public amenities. As emerging economies increasingly invest in landmark sports infrastructure, mega-stadiums are becoming catalysts for tourism, real estate expansion, and long-term economic positioning. If delivered as proposed, the project would mark a defining moment in Vietnam’s sporting and urban evolution.
