Dubai's ambitious underground transportation project is moving closer to reality. In this recap, we break down everything you need to know about the Dubai Loop, the high-speed tunnel network being developed with Elon Musk's The Boring Company.
Designed to connect major destinations including DIFC, Dubai Mall, and the Burj Khalifa district, the Dubai Loop aims to reduce travel times from around 20 minutes to as little as three minutes using electric Tesla vehicles operating beneath the city. The first phase is expected to cost approximately AED 565 million ($154 million), serve more than 13,000 passengers daily, and launch within the next few years without disrupting existing roads and infrastructure.
The project also supports Dubai's long-term autonomous mobility ambitions, with self-driving vehicles expected to be introduced after launch. If successful, the Dubai Loop could become one of the world's most advanced urban transportation systems.
