Image: Saudi Binladin GroupJEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA – Jeddah Tower, Saudi Arabia’s landmark mega-tall mixed-use development, has reached a significant construction milestone, surpassing 100 floors and exceeding 400 metres in height as work continues on what is set to become the tallest building in the world.
Once completed, the tower is expected to rise beyond 1,000 metres, making it the first human-made structure to reach a full kilometre in height, according to Thornton Tomasetti, the US-based engineering consulting firm involved in the project.
The milestone reflects renewed momentum on the development, which remains one of the most ambitious construction projects globally and a central component of Saudi Arabia’s long-term urban and economic development strategy.
Watch: Jeddah Tower – The Next Tallest Building in the World Is Taking Shape
Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural design services in collaboration with Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, working to deliver a highly specialised design that integrates advanced structural systems, materials and performance-driven engineering solutions.
The project involves close coordination with a multidisciplinary team that includes Jeddah Economic Company, Langan, RWDI, Dar Al-Handasah, Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) and Turner International, highlighting the scale and complexity of delivering a supertall structure of this magnitude.
Designed as a mixed-use vertical city, Jeddah Tower is expected to incorporate residential, hospitality and commercial components, alongside observation and leisure facilities. Its design places a strong emphasis on structural efficiency, wind engineering and material innovation, addressing the technical challenges associated with extreme building heights.
The tower forms a key part of the wider Jeddah Economic City masterplan, which aims to position the Red Sea city as a major international hub for business, tourism and investment. The project also reflects Saudi Arabia’s broader ambitions to deliver iconic, large-scale developments that support economic diversification and long-term growth.
As construction continues to progress, the latest milestone reinforces the project’s trajectory toward redefining global benchmarks in high-rise engineering and architectural design.
