Richard Wolfe, Brand Manager of Pedini at BG Group.DUBAI, UAE – When Richard Wolfe talks about kitchens, he does not talk about cabinets or worktops or appliances. He talks about light. About the way a marble surface changes through the course of a day. About the sound a perfectly engineered drawer makes when it closes. He talks about kitchens the way a conductor talks about music, as something experienced holistically, where every individual element exists in service of something larger.
As Pedini Brand Manager at BG Group, Wolfe has spent years bringing Italy's most considered kitchen design philosophy to the UAE's luxury residential market.
The UAE has no shortage of luxury brands competing for attention. Why should a discerning homeowner choose Pedini?
That's a fair question, and it deserves an honest answer. There are a lot of brands in this market making impressive claims. What I always ask people to do is look more carefully. When you're standing in front of a kitchen that costs what a Pedini kitchen costs, you should be able to see where the money went. In the drawer mechanism, the way the door sits in its frame, or the finish on the interior of a cabinet.
Pedini was founded in Italy, a city that has been producing exceptional craftsmanship for centuries. The manufacturing philosophy that exists there is genuinely different from what you find in mass production, even at the premium end. It is intentional in the best sense of the word. It is tastefully careful, every component is made with the knowledge that it will be used every day for decades. That is not a marketing line but a manufacturing reality. And once you've experienced that quality, it becomes very difficult to accept anything less.
The UAE luxury market is sophisticated. Clients here have access to virtually every premium brand in the world. What do you think they find at Pedini that they're not finding elsewhere?
They find someone who understands. The UAE luxury client has evolved enormously in recent years. They know what they want. They've often done extensive research before they walk into our showroom. What they need from us is not a presentation, they need a partner.
Pedini’s approach is truly bespoke. We do not offer off-the-shelf kitchens from a catalogue. Every kitchen we create for the UAE is tailored to an individual client, a specific home, and a distinct lifestyle. We ask the kinds of questions many kitchen designers overlook, and that attention to how the space will actually be used sets us apart. It is also why clients return to us and recommend us to others.
You mentioned the way UAE clients have evolved. What does the kitchen mean to a UAE luxury homeowner today, compared to, say, five years ago?
The transformation has been remarkable. Five years ago, the kitchen was often the last conversation a luxury property buyer had. They would spend enormous energy on the facade, the majlis, the master suite , and then the kitchen would be almost a footnote. A box to tick.
Today, it is frequently the first conversation. I have clients who walk in and say, 'I've bought the villa, and the kitchen is the reason I bought it, and I need you to make it worthy of the house.' That represents a seismic shift in how people here are thinking about residential space.
I think there are a few drivers. Globally, people spent more time at home during and after the pandemic, and their relationship with domestic space became much more considered. In the UAE specifically, there has been a generational shift, younger, internationally educated clients who have lived in London, New York, Milan, they come back to Dubai with a very clear idea of what a world-class kitchen should feel like. And they are not willing to compromise.
There is also a resale market dimension that has become increasingly significant. UAE homeowners are astute investors. They understand that a Pedini kitchen is not only a lifestyle decision but a value-creation decision. A property with an exceptional, specified Italian kitchen commands a premium feel. Full stop.
Let's talk about the design process. What happens when a client first walks through your door?
The first conversation is never about kitchens. That might sound counterintuitive, but it is absolutely intentional. The first conversation is about life. How do you live? Who lives with you? What does a perfect morning look like in your home? What does a perfect dinner for twenty look like? What is the relationship between your kitchen and your dining space, your outdoor entertaining area, your staff quarters?
Only once we understand the life does the design begin to make sense. The kitchen is a functional space, and the function must be right before the beauty can be layered on top. That is not a commercial decision, it is an ethical one. Our reputation in this market is built on the quality of what we install. We protect it accordingly.
Pedini sits within BG Group, alongside brands like BG Villas, BG Smart, and BG Pools + Landscapes. How does that integration change what you can offer clients?
It is, genuinely, a significant advantage, and I say that not as a marketing line but as someone who has worked in this industry long enough to understand what it means to try and coordinate multiple specialist contractors on a single luxury project.
When a client comes to BG Group, they have access to a kitchen designer, a smart home technology expert, a pool and landscape architect, a villa sales and development team, and a property investment advisor, all within the same group, all speaking the same language, all committed to the same standard. In practice, this means extraordinary things.
Looking ahead, what is Pedini UAE building toward? What does the next chapter look like?
We are in a period of real momentum. The UAE's luxury property market is one of the most dynamic in the world right now, and the clients arriving in this market are among the most demanding and most well-informed we have ever worked with. That is exactly where Pedini thrives.
In practical terms, we are expanding our material library significantly in the second half of 2026, some genuinely exciting additions that I am not at liberty to detail just yet. We are also deepening our relationships with UAE architects and interior designers, because increasingly the most interesting projects come through design professionals who want a partner they can trust absolutely.
The UAE has always appreciated craftsmanship. What we are seeing now is that appreciation becoming an expectation. Pedini is ready for that.
