Imtiaz Developments Unveils ZHA-Designed Symphony Tower in Dubai

Dubai, UAE: Imtiaz Developments has announced the launch of The Symphony Tower, a new 42-storey residential landmark designed by Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA). The project is located in Dubai’s emerging Horizon district, positioned between Meydan Racecourse and the protected waters of Ras Al Khor Nature Reserve.

The development places residents at the crossroads of one of the city’s most ambitious regeneration corridors and Dubai’s most significant ecological sanctuary. Ras Al Khor, now a protected wetland, is home to diverse wildlife including migratory species and the UAE’s iconic rose-coloured flamingos.

A Design Inspired by Emirati Craftsmanship

The Symphony Tower’s design draws from the three-dimensional geometries and fine detailing found in Al Sadu and Talli, the traditional Emirati textiles woven with metallic threads. ZHA has translated these motifs into an interlaced exoskeleton that forms the tower’s outer façade.

This precision-engineered structure appears to shift in tone and depth as light moves across the building during the day. Its distinctive patterning, defined by varying façade recesses and outdoor terraces, creates a rhythmic architectural expression reminiscent of the craftsmanship that inspired it.

Each residence features outdoor living areas integrated into the façade geometry, offering sheltered terraces with views towards the wetlands and the city beyond. According to ZHA, these exterior spaces help define a unique vertical neighbourhood, with the depth of the exoskeleton providing shade and comfort throughout much of the year.

A Softly Illuminated Lattice Powered by Solar Energy

ZHA stated that the tower incorporates photovoltaic technology that charges internal batteries, allowing solar energy collected during daylight hours to power the building’s lighting. After sunset, the exoskeleton’s three-dimensional lattice emits a gentle amber glow that highlights the woven structural pattern. This illuminated effect echoes the shimmer of metallic threads in traditional Emirati embroidery.

Engineering That Elevates Sustainability

The exoskeleton serves several structural and environmental functions. Beyond its visual identity, it reduces solar gain, shades the façades and enhances energy efficiency, while also protecting the tower’s balconies and terraces from direct sunlight.

Imtiaz Developments and ZHA have also integrated a series of sustainable design measures aimed at reducing the building’s embodied carbon. These include:
