Dubai’s Museum of the Future to Close in September for Major Overhaul

DUBAI, UAE: Dubai’s Museum of the Future is preparing to temporarily close to visitors in September 2026 as the landmark undergoes a major overhaul of its exhibitions, experiences and identity ahead of its fifth anniversary.

The revamp, first announced earlier this year, will introduce a new generation of experiences exploring the scientific, technological and societal transformations shaping the future of humanity.

According to the available ticketing information, tickets are currently unavailable beyond Tuesday, September 1, as preparations move forward for the redevelopment.

The new experiences are scheduled to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2027, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of the Museum of the Future, which opened on February 22, 2022.

More Than 1,000 Ideas Submitted for Museum Revamp

The overhaul follows a process that generated more than 1,000 ideas and suggestions from around the world.

The museum is now developing new experiences and narratives alongside a refreshed identity, with the updated exhibitions intended to provide visitors with more interactive ways of exploring the opportunities and challenges expected to shape the coming decades.

Further details about the installations and experiences planned for the revamped Museum of the Future are expected to be announced in the coming months.

The redevelopment represents a significant update for one of Dubai's most recognisable architectural landmarks, with the museum's distinctive torus-shaped structure and Arabic calligraphy façade having become a prominent feature of the city's skyline.

New Experiences Expected by February 2027

The overhaul is expected to be completed ahead of February 22, 2027, marking five years since the Museum of the Future officially opened.

Before the revamp, the museum's existing experiences span several floors and explore potential futures across areas including outer-space resource development, ecosystems, bioengineering, health and wellbeing.

Another floor focuses on near-future technologies and their potential role in addressing challenges related to health, water, food, transportation and energy.

The museum also includes a dedicated children's experience designed to encourage younger visitors to explore and solve challenges as "future heroes".

Tickets are currently priced at $46 (AED 169), while children under four and people of determination are granted free entry.

Following its temporary closure, the next iteration of the Museum of the Future will introduce updated exhibitions and interactive experiences as the landmark enters its next phase in 2027.
