Dubai’s Nasser Rashid Lootah Building, better known as the Toyota Building, is reportedly set to be demolished in 2027, bringing more than five decades of history on Sheikh Zayed Road to an end.

In this Property News International recap, we look back at one of Dubai’s most recognizable buildings. Completed in 1974, the 15-story tower stood on Sheikh Zayed Road long before the skyline transformed into the high-rise corridor known today.

The building became famous after a large Toyota billboard was installed on its rooftop in 1981, eventually becoming so closely associated with the property that residents simply began calling it the Toyota Building. The sign was removed in 2018 before returning in June 2022.

Residents are now beginning to move out, with existing rental contracts permitted to continue until December 2026.
