Abu Dhabi has officially begun construction of Dar al Funoon (House of the Arts), a landmark performing arts destination designed by the late world-renowned architect Frank Gehry.
Scheduled to open in 2030 on Saadiyat Island, the venue will become one of the region's most advanced cultural institutions, featuring a performance hall with more than 2,000 seats, a 3,500-seat open-air amphitheatre, a 400-seat studio theatre, and a 250-seat jazz venue.
Announced by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), Dar al Funoon will host opera, ballet, theatre, jazz, and contemporary performances throughout the year, while supporting artist residencies, international collaborations, and cultural exchange. The project forms part of Abu Dhabi's long-term vision to strengthen its position as a global centre for arts, culture, and creativity.
