Abu Dhabi, UAE - Abu Dhabi Housing Authority has won first place at the GCC Housing Award for its West Bani Yas Residential Project, recognising the development as a leading integrated housing initiative in the region.

The award was presented during the fourth GCC Housing Week in Bahrain under the theme, “An Integrated Housing Project with Comprehensive Services that Enhances Quality of Life.”

The West Bani Yas development covers approximately 5.85 million square metres and includes 1,659 residential villas, representing an investment of around $1.99 billion (AED 7.3 billion).

Construction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2027.

The project has been planned as a comprehensive community with a government school, places of worship, retail facilities, parks, recreational areas, sports facilities and spaces for cultural and community activities.

Its internal road network and wider connections are designed to improve accessibility to surrounding residential areas and major transport routes.

Universal design principles have also been incorporated to support accessibility for all residents, including People of Determination.

Smart systems and 3D-printed homes

West Bani Yas includes smart communications infrastructure, monitoring systems, emergency alert networks and electric vehicle charging stations.

Smart systems will also support traffic and waste management, while the wider infrastructure has been designed to accommodate future technologies including autonomous vehicles.

The project is also using 3D-printing technology in villa construction, with two-storey homes being produced using the method.

The authority said the technology is intended to speed up construction, improve efficiency and reduce material waste.

Hamad Harib Al Muhairi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Housing Authority, said: “This recognition is a testament to ADHA’s efforts to develop an integrated housing system that responds to citizens’ aspirations and places their quality of life at the heart of our priorities.”

He added: “The West Bani Yas Residential Project brings together outstanding urban planning, ease of living, high-quality facilities and services, community participation, and smart readiness, in line with the GCC’s goals for sustainable housing.”

The GCC Housing Award is organised every two years under the supervision of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council and recognises integrated housing projects and leading practices across GCC member states.
