Citadel has secured approval to begin operations in Dubai, marking a major addition to DIFC’s financial ecosystem. Image: Paul ElledgeDUBAI, UAE – Citadel, one of the world’s largest hedge fund firms with approximately $67 billion in assets under management, has received regulatory approval to begin operations in Dubai, according to a Bloomberg report.
The approval enables the firm to commence trading activities from the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), marking a significant step in its international expansion and reinforcing Dubai’s growing role as a global financial hub.
Citadel has already begun establishing its local presence, with one of its portfolio managers relocating to the emirate to lead the initial setup and operations.
Headquartered in the United States, Citadel is known for its multi-strategy hedge fund platform, operating across a wide range of asset classes and global markets. Its entry into DIFC is seen as a strong signal of confidence in Dubai’s regulatory environment, infrastructure and access to regional capital.
The move places Citadel in close proximity to some of the world’s largest pools of capital, including sovereign wealth funds across the Gulf, further enhancing its ability to engage with institutional investors in the region.
Dubai has continued to attract leading global financial institutions in recent years, supported by its strategic location, business-friendly regulatory framework and growing ecosystem for capital markets, asset management and fintech.
Citadel’s presence is expected to contribute to the deepening of Dubai’s financial services sector, particularly within hedge fund and alternative investment segments, as the emirate strengthens its positioning as a key gateway between East and West.
The development also aligns with broader ambitions to expand DIFC’s role as a leading international financial centre, attracting global firms seeking access to high-growth markets and institutional capital across the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.
