The Al Reem Island development is not slowing down. Image: SuppliedABU DHABI, UAE – MERED has confirmed that main piling works are now underway at Riviera Residences, its waterfront residential development on Al Reem Island, marking a key construction milestone as the project progresses on schedule.
The update follows the completion of 60% of enabling works, including guide walls, shoring, contiguous piling, ground improvement, and deep foundation preparations across both zones, reflecting steady advancement across early-stage construction.
The continued progress at Riviera Residences highlights the resilience of Abu Dhabi’s premium residential market and the strength of off-plan project delivery within the emirate.
Construction remains uninterrupted despite wider regional changes, supported by coordinated planning and close collaboration between the contractor NSCC and engineering consultant DAR ALHANDASAH.
To date, the project has recorded more than 85,000 safe man-hours with no lost-time incidents, underscoring a strong safety culture maintained across all stages of development.
Riviera Residences is positioned as a landmark waterfront address within Abu Dhabi Global Market, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron.
The development will comprise more than 400 apartments and 11 exclusive villas, including sky villas, ocean villas, and a penthouse, set within landscaped gardens and a curated waterfront promenade featuring cafés, boutique retail, and dining experiences.
Conceived as a resort-style residential offering, the project aims to combine architectural distinction with lifestyle-driven amenities, aligning with evolving demand for premium, design-led living environments.
Michael Belton, CEO of MERED, said:
This milestone is a direct result of the quality of the teams we have on the ground, but it is also a testament to the resilience of the UAE’s real estate sector. Abu Dhabi in particular continues to attract serious, long-term investment. This project was always conceived as something that could stand the test of time. That ambition has not changed, and neither has our commitment to delivering it.

In addition to Herzog & de Meuron, the development team includes NSCC International Ltd. for ground engineering and enabling works, DAR ALHANDASAH as engineering consultants, and Paris-based landscape architects Michel Desvigne Paysagiste (MDP).
This integrated approach supports both design excellence and technical execution across all phases of the project.
Riviera Residences is advancing within a broader framework of regulatory and economic initiatives aimed at strengthening Abu Dhabi’s real estate sector.
Recent measures introduced under Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 continue to enhance transparency, governance, and operational efficiency, reinforcing investor confidence and positioning the emirate as a stable and well-regulated market.
As construction progresses, the project reflects a continued commitment to delivering high-quality residential developments that contribute to the city’s vision for sustainable urban growth.
