Origin raises $20m to scale OG-1 construction robots

Origin has secured $20 million to expand deployment of its OG-1 construction robot, with new customer pilots planned across the US, Europe and Saudi Arabia.

San Francisco, US - Construction robotics company Origin has raised $20 million to expand deployment of its OG-1 robot and support a new phase of customer testing across several international markets.

The funding round was co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures, with participation from Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures and Z21. Angel investors connected with companies including Anduril, Skild AI, 1X and Tesla also participated.

Origin plans to direct much of the new capital towards growing its OG-1 fleet and expanding deployments with construction contractors.

The company’s flagship robot is built for interior construction work and currently focuses on wall-finishing tasks. Using interchangeable tools, OG-1 can apply compound, sand surfaces and prime walls while operating at heights of up to 14ft (4.3m).

The machine uses a three-wheel mobile platform, 360-degree sensing and an articulated robotic arm. Construction crews remain involved in functions such as mapping the work area, supplying materials and preparing the robot for different tasks.

Origin says the system is designed to operate alongside workers without requiring a permanently separated robotic work zone.

The company is preparing larger pilots with two major US drywall finishing contractors, whose identities have not been disclosed. Further pilots are planned in Germany, Sweden, France and Saudi Arabia, giving the expansion a direct Middle East construction-technology angle.

Origin was founded in early 2025 and moved its first robots onto construction sites in New York within 10 months. The company is targeting deployment of 150 robots by the end of 2027.

OG-1 operates using Origin’s proprietary Construction Action Model, which combines task planning, autonomous navigation and feedback-based control to carry out construction workflows.

Origin also plans to extend the same robotic platform beyond wall finishing. Areas being explored include taping, drywall installation, drilling and conduit installation.

The company says its robots are already being used across commercial buildings, multifamily residential projects, data centres, hotels and warehouses.

Origin co-founder and CEO Yogesh Ghaturle said: “We started Origin to bring physical AI to interior trades.”

He said the company sees wall finishing and painting as an entry point for applying robotics to a wider range of interior construction work.

As part of the funding round, Zacua Ventures founding partner Vivin Hegde has joined Origin’s board.
