(Image source: Oman Cables Industry)Muscat, Oman - Oman Cables Industry has broken ground on a third manufacturing plant at Al Rusayl Industrial City, investing more than $26 million (RO10 million) to expand its production capabilities for the energy and infrastructure sectors.
The new facility forms part of a wider investment programme exceeding $39 million (RO15 million) that the company has undertaken in advanced manufacturing in Oman in recent years.
A key feature of the project will be a 42-metre cable production tower, described by the company as the first of its kind in Oman. The plant will also be equipped to handle cable drums measuring more than four metres in diameter and weighing up to 50 tonnes.
The facility is being designed around a more digital manufacturing model. Planned systems include a Manufacturing Execution System, AI-supported predictive maintenance and AI-driven quality monitoring, alongside real-time safety technologies.
The project is expected to create more than 60 employment opportunities and will place an emphasis on developing Omani technical, professional and leadership capabilities.
The groundbreaking was held under the patronage of Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals.
Oman Cables Industry Chairperson Cinzia Farisè said: “The energy and infrastructure landscape is transforming rapidly, and so is the role we play within it.”
She said the new plant will support the company’s move towards a broader solutions model combining manufacturing, technology and technical expertise for energy and infrastructure customers.
The expansion is also linked to Oman Cables’ strategic partnership with Prysmian, which gives its local teams access to a global network of more than 30 research and development centres.
Oman Cables has operated in the Sultanate for more than four decades and also has interests including Oman Aluminium Processing Industries in Oman and Associated Cables Private Limited in India.
The company said Plant 3 will support growing electricity, renewable-energy and infrastructure requirements while contributing to Oman’s industrial development objectives under Vision 2040.
