Dubai, UAE - Nakheel has appointed Mar Marine & Building Contracting L.L.C. to carry out a major package of marine and beach works on Island B at Dubai Islands, with completion scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.

The works will upgrade approximately 3km of the island’s western shoreline and create 320 metres of new beach frontage next to the Bay Villas residential community.

The package includes construction of new breakwaters, removal of existing protective rock revetments and formation of a new beach. Mar Marine will also refurbish and repair several existing beach areas along the western side of Island B. The contract supports ongoing delivery of Bay Villas, a 636-home community comprising villas and townhouses.

In August 2025, Nakheel awarded a construction contract worth approximately $708 million (AED 2.6 billion) to Fibrex Contracting L.L.C. for Bay Villas, with the latest marine package progressing the surrounding waterfront environment alongside the residential works.

The award also follows Nakheel’s $143.5 million (AED 527 million) infrastructure contract to Al Nasr Contracting Company in April 2026 for primary infrastructure and utility works on Island B.

Khalid Al Malik, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding Real Estate, said: “Dubai Islands is being delivered as a distinctive waterfront destination designed around the experience of residents and visitors.”

He added that the new beach frontage and upgrades to the western shoreline will support the wider Island B masterplan as infrastructure and residential development progress.

Nabil Abou Rjaili, General Manager of Mar Marine & Building Contracting L.L.C, said: "the contractor will use its marine engineering experience to coordinate the new breakwaters, beach formation and refurbishment of existing coastal areas."

Dubai Islands spans 18.6 sq km across five islands and is planned to accommodate more than 230,000 residents across approximately 62,000 homes.

The wider masterplan will also include more than 11,000 hotel rooms and over 4,000 branded residences as Nakheel continues development of the waterfront destination off Dubai’s Deira coastline.
