Entrance to L&T House, Larsen & Toubro’s headquarters in Mumbai, after the group won orders for government buildings in New Delhi and office towers in Amaravati. (Image source: Larsen & Toubro)Mumbai, India - Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won two orders in India, from the Central Public Works Department in New Delhi and the Government of Andhra Pradesh, for government buildings and a pair of 47-floor office towers.
Both were secured by the group’s Public Spaces, Airports & Health (PAH) business vertical. L&T classifies them as “large” orders, a band it uses for contracts worth approximately US$264.27 million (INR 2,500 crore) to US$528.54 million (INR 5,000 crore); the individual contract values were not disclosed.
Awarded by the Central Public Works Department, the first order covers the construction of the Government of India’s Common Central Secretariat buildings 4 and 5 along Kartavya Path in New Delhi.
To be implemented on an engineering, procurement and construction basis, the project comprises two buildings of basement, ground and seven floors, with a total built-up area of 32.8 lakh sq ft (3.28 million sq ft).
L&T’s scope covers structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) and external development works. The project is scheduled for completion in 24 months, followed by a five-year operation and maintenance period.
The second order, awarded by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, is for two office towers on either side of the Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre at Amaravati.
The proposed towers are configured as basement, ground and 47 floors and together cover a built-up area of 37.5 lakh sq ft (3.75 million sq ft).
It is a design and build order, with L&T’s scope including shell and core works. The towers are scheduled for completion in 30 months.
In its exchange filing, L&T said: “L&T’s PAH business vertical has built an impressive track record of delivering modern and customised public spaces across India and overseas. These latest orders further reinforce the confidence that government agencies place in L&T’s ability to undertake demanding projects and deliver them to the highest standards.”
L&T’s shares were trading flat in Wednesday’s intraday session. Over the past month the share price has fallen by more than 5%, and over the past six months it has declined over 9%.
