Jeddah, Saudi Arabia - Jeddah Tower is now expected to be completed in late 2028, with construction continuing to accelerate following the project’s restart in January 2025.

The tower reached 116 floors last month, equivalent to approximately 466 metres, according to Fabian Toscano, Chief Executive Officer of Jeddah Economic Company.

A total of 157 floors are planned, leaving 41 floors still to be completed.

Construction pace increases

Work on the tower resumed in January 2025 with 63 floors already complete.

Since then, Saudi Binladin Group, the main contractor, has accelerated progress significantly. The tower had reached 74 floors by November last year, meaning around 42 floors were added over the following 10 months.

Toscano said the building’s core is currently progressing at around one floor every five days, although the wings require additional time.

At that pace, the core could require around seven more months before work moves fully into the spire stage.

The final height has not yet been disclosed, with Toscano describing it only as “a kilometre plus”.

Once complete, Jeddah Tower is expected to exceed Dubai’s 828-metre Burj Khalifa and become the world’s tallest building.

First phase of Jeddah Economic City moves forward

The tower forms the centrepiece of Jeddah Economic City, a 5.3 million sqm development in Obhur, around 20km north of central Jeddah.

The first phase covers approximately 1.7 million sqm and already has key infrastructure in place, including roads, power, water and district cooling.

Toscano said serviced plots within the first phase are ready for development.

The wider masterplan is expected to be presented at Cityscape in Riyadh in November, where Jeddah Economic Company plans to begin formal discussions with developers interested in phase-one land. Apartment sales within Jeddah Tower are now expected to begin in 2027.

Inside the tower, most major contracts have already been awarded, with current work focused on mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems as well as facade completion.
