DUBAI, UAE – Dubai’s most recognisable hospitality landmark, Jumeirah Burj Al Arab, is set to undergo its first major restoration since opening in 1999, as part of a long-term strategy to preserve one of the emirate’s most iconic symbols.

The dhow sail-shaped hotel, operated by Jumeirah Group, a subsidiary of Dubai Holding, will undergo a phased restoration programme over approximately 18 months, focusing on conserving and enhancing its distinctive interiors while maintaining uninterrupted luxury service standards.

Widely regarded as a defining icon of Dubai’s global tourism identity, Jumeirah Burj Al Arab has played a central role in positioning the emirate as a leading destination for ultra-luxury hospitality.

The restoration programme reflects a broader commitment to maintaining the relevance of landmark properties as Dubai’s urban landscape continues to evolve.

Jumeirah Burj Al Arab is far more than an architectural landmark; it is a symbol of ambition, craftsmanship and enduring excellence,

said Thomas B. Meier, CEO of Jumeirah.

For the last 27 years, this exceptional property has served guests with the same passion and world-class standards that distinguish it from any other hotel in the world. This restoration programme marks a new chapter in the story of Jumeirah Burj Al Arab.

Design-led restoration guided by global expertise

The project will be led by French interior architect Tristan Auer, selected following a detailed evaluation process. Auer is internationally recognised for his work on heritage restoration projects, including Hôtel de Crillon in Paris.

The restoration is expected to focus on refining the hotel’s interiors while preserving its original design identity, which has become synonymous with luxury and craftsmanship.

“Being entrusted with the very first restoration of a property of this calibre in Dubai — the Jumeirah Burj Al Arab, a timeless icon of the region — is a profound privilege,” said Auer.

“To carry forward, with the utmost dedication, the legacy of such an extraordinary landmark is both an honour and a responsibility.”

Since its opening, Jumeirah Burj Al Arab has become one of the most photographed buildings globally and a flagship asset within Dubai’s luxury hospitality sector. The property features 198 suites and is known for its distinctive interiors, incorporating marble, gold leaf, and Swarovski crystal detailing.

Beyond its architectural presence, the hotel has helped redefine luxury service standards in the region, including the introduction of personalised butler services and highly tailored guest experiences.

A new chapter for an enduring landmark

The restoration programme underscores Dubai’s evolving approach to urban development, where the preservation of modern icons is increasingly seen as integral to sustaining long-term tourism and cultural value.

As the city continues to expand, maintaining the identity and relevance of established landmarks such as Jumeirah Burj Al Arab remains a key priority, ensuring they continue to represent Dubai’s ambition and global positioning for future generations.
