Dubai, UAE - AESG, a leading global engineering, consultancy and advisory firm, has announced the acquisition of The Energy Project (TEP), one of Australia’s leading specialist renewable and distributed-energy consultancies. Alongside the acquisition, highly experienced engineering consultancy leader Andrew Mather has joined AESG as Managing Director, Australia, strengthening the leadership of AESG’s growing international platform.

Following the acquisition, TEP will form the renewable-energy pillar of AESG’s broader Sustainability practice. The business has built a strong reputation for independent, technically rigorous advice across renewable-energy strategy, solar, battery storage, microgrids, distributed energy and EV infrastructure. Its energy strategy, techno-economic modelling and project-delivery expertise will complement AESG’s established capabilities across sustainability, environmental consultancy, building services, electrical infrastructure, cost management and commissioning.

For the Middle East, the acquisition gives AESG’s clients access to specialist expertise developed in a market already addressing many of the technical challenges that are becoming increasingly important as renewable generation and storage scale. TEP’s experience spans the full lifecycle, from energy strategy and techno-economic modelling through to specification, procurement and delivery. This complements AESG’s established position in sustainability and multidisciplinary engineering across the region.

“Our approach to growth is focused on building and acquiring specialist capabilities that strengthen AESG and create meaningful value for our clients globally. The Energy Project is exactly that. TEP has built an exceptional reputation in Australia, a market that has become a global benchmark for the integration of renewable generation, storage and distributed energy. Bringing that expertise into AESG strengthens our ability to support clients across the full energy-project lifecycle and is particularly relevant in the Middle East, where the scale and complexity of infrastructure development are creating growing demand for energy systems that are technically robust, commercially viable and resilient over the long term,” said Saeed Al Abbar, CEO of AESG.

Headquartered in South Australia, TEP has played an active role in one of the world’s most advanced renewable-energy markets, advising corporations, utilities, airports, governments and institutions on renewable and distributed-energy projects. Its track record includes solar projects at Adelaide and Sydney airports, solar and battery infrastructure for water utilities, EV charging infrastructure for Linfox, and commercial energy programmes for organisations including Bunnings and Stockland.

TEP co-founder Patrick Greene will continue to play a leading role within the business. Greene brings three decades of experience across the technology and renewable-energy sectors, spanning solar, battery storage, microgrids, virtual power plants, energy policy and project delivery. He said, “Joining AESG is a natural next step for The Energy Project. We share a strong commitment to technical excellence, independent advice and practical client outcomes. AESG’s international platform and complementary expertise will allow us to take the experience we have developed in Australia into markets such as the Middle East and beyond, while creating new opportunities for our team and clients.”

As Managing Director, Australia, Mather will lead AESG’s continued development in the market while ensuring that the expertise of TEP and the wider Australian business supports clients and teams across the Middle East and AESG’s international network. A highly regarded figure in the engineering consultancy sector, he brings more than four decades of industry experience, including extensive senior leadership within international engineering consultancies and a substantial track record of building, acquiring and integrating consulting businesses across multiple markets.

“TEP brings deep technical expertise, an outstanding track record and an independent, commercially focused approach to energy consultancy. AESG brings complementary multidisciplinary capability, international reach and the scale to take that expertise into new markets. My focus will be on bringing those strengths together, continuing to build the Australian business and creating a genuinely two-way flow of expertise and opportunity between Australia and AESG’s international network,” Mather said.

The acquisition and Mather’s appointment form part of AESG’s continued international expansion and its strategy of combining organic growth with selective investment in best-in-class specialist capabilities and senior industry talent.
