ABU DHABI, UAE – Global architecture and design practice Aedas has unveiled the design for Rixos Al Reem Residences, a branded waterfront residential development on Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi for East&West Properties. The project marks the second Rixos-branded residential development created through the partnership, following the success of Rixos Financial Center Road Residences in Dubai.

Scheduled for completion in 2029, the development will rise within the City of Lights district on Al Reem Island, introducing a high-rise residential tower positioned along the canal edge. Designed by Aedas under the direction of Ignacio Gomez, the project forms part of the growing trend toward hospitality-led residential developments across the UAE.

A restrained architectural approach

Rather than competing with the surrounding skyline, the design adopts a restrained architectural language that seeks distinction through simplicity. According to Aedas, Reem Island's skyline is largely defined by repetitive glass towers, prompting the design team to focus on clarity, controlled proportions and a consistent vertical rhythm instead of visual complexity.

The tower has been carefully oriented to maximise views of the canal and Abu Dhabi skyline while allowing natural light to shape interior spaces. This approach creates open living environments while maintaining a strong connection to the waterfront setting.

Hospitality-inspired living

The development comprises 376 apartments spread across 30 residential floors, offering a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom residences. Large windows and balconies extend living spaces toward the waterfront, reinforcing the relationship between the interiors and surrounding views.

Hospitality principles have also informed the overall planning, with arrival experiences, circulation and shared amenities designed to create intuitive, seamless residential environments.

A second rooftop swimming pool will provide elevated views across Reem Island and the surrounding waterfront, while landscaped public areas, shaded walkways and seating spaces strengthen the connection between the building and the canal promenade.

Focus on environmental performance

Environmental considerations are integrated into the design through the building's orientation and façade composition. The tower is positioned to manage solar exposure while maintaining access to daylight, with a façade balancing solid and open elements to provide shading, privacy and improved environmental performance.

Continuing a branded residential portfolio

Rixos Al Reem Residences continues Aedas' growing portfolio of branded residential developments in the Middle East, combining architecture, hospitality and residential living within a waterfront setting.

The project has been commissioned by East&West Properties and is expected to contribute to the continued evolution of hospitality-driven residential communities across the region.
