(Image: )DUBAI, UAE: SEE Holding, the sustainability-focused group behind the globally recognised model “The Sustainable City,” has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) to explore the development of sustainable, mixed-use communities within one of Saudi Arabia’s most ambitious Giga projects.
The agreement was formalised by Dr. Muawieh Radaideh, Group CEO of SEE Holding, and Abdulaziz Al Nowaiser, CEO of Emaar, The Economic City (EEC), master developer of KAEC, during a ceremony held on the sidelines of Cityscape Global in Riyadh. Senior leadership from both organisations attended the signing.
The partnership aims to bring “The Sustainable City” concept to KAEC, positioning the Red Sea destination as a modern, environmentally responsible urban centre that supports investment, innovation, and elevated quality of life. SEE Holding and KAEC will jointly explore a large-scale development incorporating residential, commercial, and community infrastructure built on high sustainability standards.
Planned elements include clean energy generation, on-site food production, integrated waste and water management systems, smart mobility solutions, and a framework designed to reduce environmental impact while creating economic and social value. The initiative also reinforces KAEC’s broader mission to become a leading future-ready coastal destination aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
Eng. Faris Saeed, Founder and Chairman of SEE Holding, said: “We believe that the successful replication and rapid growth of sustainable developments worldwide require strong partnerships and collaborations among like-minded stakeholders. Over the years and through multiple projects, we have demonstrated that ‘The Sustainable City’ model is replicable, scalable, and effective anywhere in the world. Saudi Arabia represents one of the most dynamic markets for sustainable urban innovation. Our partnership today with KAEC is going to contribute to a national transformation that advances quality of life, drives economic diversification, and accelerates progress toward Vision 2030.”
Commenting on the agreement, Abdulaziz Al Nowaiser, CEO of EEC, stated: “This partnership marks the next step in KAEC’s journey to become a thriving, future-ready city. By working with SEE Holding, we are accelerating the development of sustainable communities that enhance quality of life, attract investment, and create new opportunities. Together, we are shaping a modern coastal destination that reflects Saudi Arabia’s vision for economic diversification and environmental stewardship.”
The MoU underscores growing interest in the Sustainable City framework as KAEC seeks to advance its environmental and social goals. SEE Holding brings more than two decades of global expertise in low-carbon community design, with its model already implemented in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat (Yiti).
“The Sustainable City” concept supports the Paris Agreement 2050 targets by integrating renewable energy, urban farming, circular waste systems, recycled water use, and clean mobility. It also aims to maximise in-country value through job creation, local supply chain development, and circular-economy practices.
With this partnership, KAEC and SEE Holding move closer to delivering a next-generation community that embodies sustainable living, supports economic diversification, and contributes to the Kingdom’s long-term environmental ambitions.
