Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - September 15, 2025 - Red Sea Global (RSG), the visionary developer behind The Red Sea and AMAALA regenerative tourism destinations, has announced that the first resorts and attractions on Shura Island will begin opening to guests in the coming weeks.
Phase one will see the debut of SLS Red Sea, The Red Sea EDITION, and InterContinental The Red Sea Resort, along with the launch of Shura Links, Saudi Arabia’s first island golf course. This milestone marks a pivotal moment for RSG in its mission to redefine global tourism while driving the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 for national transformation and economic diversification.
John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, said: "As the heart of The Red Sea, Shura Island represents everything Red Sea Global stands for: bold ambition, deep respect for nature, and a commitment to redefining tourism in Saudi Arabia and beyond. With the soft opening of Shura in the coming weeks, we move closer to achieving our mission to set new standards in regenerative tourism, while realizing Vision 2030."
When fully complete, Shura Island will be home to 11 world-class resorts, offering guests unparalleled access to pristine landscapes, elevated hospitality, and curated cultural and wellness experiences.
The first three resorts opening include:
SLS Red Sea: A bold mix of natural beauty and SLS's signature flair, featuring 150 luxury rooms and villas, including beachfront and overwater options, along with cultural and wellness experiences.
The Red Sea EDITION: A modern sanctuary offering 240 rooms, 53 suites, multiple dining venues, a world-class spa, watersports access, and direct entry to the golf course.
InterContinental The Red Sea Resort: A five-star barefoot luxury escape with 178 rooms and 32 suites, five dining options, a spa, event spaces, and architecture inspired by surrounding coral reefs.
The remaining eight resorts, including Faena, Fairmont, Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt, Jumeirah, Miraval, Raffles, and Rosewood are set to open over the coming months.
Naturally shaped like a dolphin, Shura Island’s masterplan was designed by world-renowned architects Foster + Partners under the concept of ‘Coral Bloom’, inspired by the island’s surrounding coral reefs.
Every aspect of the design has been engineered to minimize environmental impact, maximize energy efficiency, and protect biodiversity. Like the rest of The Red Sea project, Shura Island will run entirely on renewable energy, setting a benchmark for sustainable luxury tourism.
Opening this September, Shura Links introduces Saudi Arabia’s first island golf course. The championship 18-hole course has been meticulously designed to blend the natural desert landscape with lush fairways, providing an unforgettable experience for players.
Sustainability is a core focus, with eco-friendly practices and innovative water management integrated into every aspect of the course. Conveniently located near all Shura resorts, it will be accessible to both guests and homeowners across The Red Sea destination.
Shura Island will also feature luxury waterfront homes, providing a rare opportunity for ownership in this world-class destination. The first properties, announced earlier this year, are expected to be ready for handover by the end of 2025. Residents will enjoy private access to pristine beaches, vibrant entertainment venues, and seamless connectivity to neighboring resorts and facilities.
Guests will arrive at Shura Island either by boat via the luxury marina or by electric vehicle across the 3.3 km Shura Crossing, which includes Saudi Arabia’s longest internal bridge.
The Red Sea International Airport (RSI) serves as the main gateway to the destination, within three hours' flying time of 250 million people and eight hours for 85% of the global population. From next month, Qatar Airways will operate direct flights to RSI three times a week, with more airlines expected to follow.
Through The Red Sea and AMAALA, RSG is creating 120,000 new jobs, strengthening local communities, and fueling Saudi Arabia’s economic growth.
As these transformative projects come to life, Shura Island stands as a testament to the Kingdom’s commitment to regenerative tourism, environmental stewardship, and its emergence as one of the world’s most luxurious and sustainable destinations.
