Joshua Terry, newly appointed Partner at CSQ Project Development Consultants.DUBAI, UAE – CSQ Project Development Consultants has appointed Joshua Terry as Partner, recognising more than a decade of experience in quantity surveying, project delivery and leadership within the UAE's construction sector.
Terry's promotion marks the latest milestone in a career that has evolved from quantity surveying into business leadership, following years of contributing to major projects and helping expand CSQ's presence in Abu Dhabi.
Originally from South Africa, Terry had initially planned to pursue architecture before discovering quantity surveying through an internship. The profession's combination of construction, economics, law, accounting, design and mathematics ultimately shaped his career path and inspired his ambition to work in the UAE.
"As a university student in South Africa, what was being built out here seemed almost otherworldly," Terry said. "Projects of a scale that simply didn't exist anywhere else. I wanted to be part of that."
That ambition became reality after a one-month internship in the UAE developed into a full-time role immediately after graduating.
Terry began his career working on a multi-million-dollar construction dispute, an experience he says helped build a strong understanding of contracts, project administration and attention to detail.
"It forced me to understand contracts deeply, develop real attention to detail, and appreciate just how much hinges on proper project administration," he said.
His performance led to his selection for another major construction dispute alongside a senior claims team, before later achieving RICS chartership, a milestone he describes as one of his proudest professional achievements.
"It's no easy task, and takes many hours of effort," he said. "Earning those letters meant something because of what the journey required, not just the outcome."
The latest kiosk stands within Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport, an area where CSQ has successfully wrapped up numerous mixed-use retail ventures.A defining stage of Terry's career came after joining CSQ, where he was entrusted with leading the firm's Abu Dhabi office.
The role expanded his responsibilities beyond technical delivery to include team development, business growth and organisational culture.
"Suddenly I wasn't just responsible for my own work," he said. "I was responsible for a team, for building something, and for setting the tone of the culture and direction of an office. It taught me more about myself as a professional than any single project I'd done before."
Leading multicultural teams across the UAE has also shaped his management approach.
"You have to understand each person individually, what motivates them, how they receive feedback, what kind of support actually helps them grow," he said. "That's made me a much better communicator, and a more patient one."
He added: "The growth hasn't been mine alone, and I wouldn't want anyone to think it was."
CSQ provided fit out co-ordination and technical services for large-scale (700,000m²) mixed-use retail, commercial and transport hub in Abu Dhabi. Being a part of the RDD (Retail Design and Delivery) Team for the new Zayed International Airport, our team faced the collaborative task of reviving the major hub for air travel in the Middle East. For Terry, becoming Partner represents an opportunity to contribute to CSQ's long-term strategy rather than simply recognising past achievements.
"I now have a genuine seat at the table when it comes to the direction of the firm, its culture, and the decisions that shape what CSQ looks like in five years," he said. "That's not something I take lightly."
He added that the appointment reflects a shared commitment with the firm's leadership and wider team.
"That sense of mutual accountability, to the firm, to the team, to the clients, is what partnership really means to me," he said. "Not a reward for the past decade, but a commitment to the next one."
