DUBAI, UAE – Better Gardens, part of BG Group's portfolio, has identified a significant shift in the role of outdoor environments within UAE residential design, with gardens, pools and landscaped spaces increasingly serving as defining measures of a property's quality, architectural intent and long-term value.
According to the company, this trend reflects changing buyer priorities across Dubai's upper residential market, where outdoor spaces, once viewed as secondary features, now play a decisive role in shaping first impressions and influencing purchasing decisions.
Commenting on the evolving market, Karam Soliman, Operations Manager at BG Group, said:
"When a serious buyer visits a UAE luxury property today, they form an impression as they walk through the interior. Then they step outside. What they find either confirms the property or disqualifies it. The outdoor environment has become the defining room, and in a market where the best properties compete on the finest margins, that distinction carries real consequence."
Better Gardens approaches outdoor design with an emphasis on spatial logic and the relationship between interior and exterior environments. The orientation of the sun, the placement of shade, prevailing winds, and the progression from indoors to outdoors are considered before visual elements are addressed. The practice treats pool engineering, landscape design and lighting as distinct disciplines, each requiring specialist expertise.
The company's pool portfolio includes overflow, indoor-outdoor, lap and leisure pools, frequently incorporating integrated entertainment features. Particular attention is given to water chemistry management suited to the Gulf climate, the structural requirements of complex forms, and the selection of materials designed to withstand local environmental conditions.
In landscape design, plant species are selected for their suitability to the UAE climate and their ability to provide year-round resilience. Layered planting, the use of mature specimens, and the integration of irrigation and drainage systems form key elements of the design approach.
Outdoor lighting is also considered from the outset to ensure landscapes retain their character after dark, with lighting incorporated as an integral part of the overall design rather than as a later addition.

This approach enables outdoor lighting systems to be planned alongside BG Smart home automation from the beginning, while outdoor kitchens and entertainment areas are developed in line with Pedini interior kitchen specifications. Landscape projects undertaken in conjunction with BG Villas property acquisitions are also planned with a detailed understanding of each home's architectural character.
Soliman added:
"The most consequential outdoor environments we deliver are those where the outdoor brief has been part of the conversation from the beginning, not a response to what has already been decided inside. BG Group's integrated structure makes that conversation the default rather than the exception."
